RBP x Calvary Christian HomeSchool Co-Op

On October 16th our Major Taylor Program had the unique opportunity to assist with a school assembly for Calvary Christian HomeSchool Co-Op. Twice each month, their student body comes together for various services, activites, and programs. We felt honored after they reached out and requested a day with RBP.

Our crew collaborated and successfully organized workshops and rides for nearly 120 kids. The high school students split into two groups- enjoying a 2 mile safety ride and working through a flat/patch repair demo. The younger students rotated through parts puzzles and stripped frames, played bike-themed games, and designed bicycle-themed arts and crafts. We met many wonderful people and look forward to future events and opportunities with Calvary's team. If you or anyone you know has an organization or event that might be a good fit with our Major Taylor Program, please reach out-we're always looking to expand our reach and collaborate with groups that align with our mission!

Reno Bike Project League Cycling Instructor Updates

Last month, our two MTP instructors, Josh and Adam, attended a three-day seminar in San Francisco facilitated by the League of American Bicyclists. To earn their League Cycling Instructor (LCI) certifications, they completed a series of instruction, examination, and presentations. We’re excited to share that they passed with flying colors, bringing the Reno Bike Project's LCI count up to four, further strengthening our capacity to deliver high-quality education and programming in our community!

FTWN-B Night & Bicycle Repair Workshops

We are excited to offer you all a few new after-hours workshops this fall:

The first is a general Bicycle Repair Class, taught from 6 - 8:30 pm on Tuesday, November 4th at our Grove St. shop. Our lovely guest mechanic and prior RBP employee, Elijah, is going to teach everyone about the basics of bicycle repair so that you can fix your bike at home (or on the side of the road)!

Our second class is a Bicycle Shifting Repair Class, which will be taught at our Grove St. shop by RBP employee Justin Kipp. This class is still in the works, so keep an eye out on our website for more info!

These two classes are $15 for members, and $45 for non-members. Sign ups are available on our website.

We also have an upcoming FTWN-B night! This is a space for femme, trans, women, and non-binary folx, and is FREE to all community members. Our fall workshop will be held on Tuesday, November 11th from 6 - 8 pm at our Grove St. shop, and will be taught by long-time instructor Lyndsey. The November workshop will focus primarily on getting your bike ready for winter storage, but Lyndsey will be there to answer other questions as well.

You can sign up for all workshops on our website! Please come to all workshops with your bike, a water bottle, and closed-toe shoes. If you have any questions or have issues with sign ups or pricing, please reach out to [email protected].

10 years with RBP's Major Taylor Program

Our Major Taylor Program is thrilled to share that we're entering our 10th year working with Dr. Larry Adams of High Desert Montessori School! Dr. Larry was so moved by our program and its impact on the students that upon joining HDMS several years ago, he requested RBP's Major Taylor Program become part of their curriculum. We recently entered our second quarter with HDMS where 21 students will spend two days every week polishing their bicycle safety, riding, and maintenance skills.

Safe Riding Saves Lives is always front of mind when taking the groups out. One of the most impactful things our MTP is able to achieve is empowering young riders in our community to safely navigate our busy roadways. The freedom of riding a bicycle is one of the few opportunities children and adolescents have to explore life outside of their daily routines. Our MTP equips participants with the skills necessary to feel confident in their abilities and challenges their critical thinking when presented with challenges or road hazards. These opportunities would not be possible if not for the incredible support from our community. Every week we're overwhelmed by the generosity and care that come through our doors in the form of donations, volunteers, and collaborations.

Thank you! Keep on rollin' and stay safe out there!
