Reno Bike Project (RBP) is a non-profit community bicycle shop and resource for the Truckee Meadows committed to creating a nationally recognized, cycling-friendly community through education, cooperation and advocacy.
Garry Gainn hasn’t owned a personal vehicle in 25 years, and probably never will again. He prefers to travel by foot, bus and especially bike. Unfortunately, Gary was without his favored method of transportation until he became RBP’s newest participant in the Biggest Little Commuter Program (BLCP). BLCP connects those experiencing hard luck with a bicycle as a means of securing and accessing employment.

Biggest Little Commuter Program is the second incarnation of the “Gift Bike Program.” While RBP dispensed hundreds of bikes during the original program, BLCP promises to be new and improved.  High quality bikes are overhauled by RBP members during the new Bicycle Repair Class; ending up in the hands of folks like Gary. Participants are referred by established community partners and contribute a $30 match. Gary served America proudly and as a Veteran he was referred by Veteran’s Outreach. The new bike has already helped him in searching for a new apartment, “it’s good as any bike I’ve ever owned.” RBP will continue to build community with BLCP as bikes hold tremendous potential to lift those out of poverty and drive economic development.
