Using a 1/4" drill bit, drill a hole 1.5" deep into the edge of your work bench.

After sliding the ferrule onto the cable housing by hand as far as it will go, place the ferrule into the small hole drilled in your workbench and push the housing in. The hole holds the ferrule steady so it seats fully and straight with minimal effort.

2. Unseize a Quill Stem Bolt

Using a 6mm hex wrench, loosen the quill bolt two full turns.
Then, using the plastic side of a hammer or mallet, hit the head of the bolt one time. It usually takes one strike to dislodge the wedge inside the steerer tube. When doing this, be careful not to hammer the stem down. Using a penetrating oil helps with severely seized stems.

3. Remove Stripped-Out Crank Arms

Get a punch the same or close to the width of the spindle inside the crank. Then, position the punch on the spindle and use a heavy hammer to hit it. This method works on both sides, just remove the opposite side cup and bearing.

4. Remove a Seized Bottom Bracket Cup

First, apply penetrating oil to the cup. Then, using a headset cup installation tool, put the threaded side of the tool inside the bottom bracket and through the cup. Install the correct tool for the cup and then install the other end of the headset tool. Be sure to tighten the headset tool, clamping the bottom bracket tool onto the cup.

From there, you can take the bicycle out of the stand and put it on the floor. While holding the frame, step onto the bottom bracket tool hard and fast with your foot. This should loosen the cup, allowing you to remove it like normal. There is much more power in the foot than the hand!

5. Remove a Seized Freewheel

Put the wheel on the floor and install a crescent wrench so that it is at the 9 o'clock position. While holding the wheel with both hands, step down on the wrench hard and fast with your foot. There is much more power in the foot than the hand!

6. Remove a Tight Pedal

Begin by applying penetrating lubricant to the pedal. Remove the opposite pedal, and then position the crank arm under the chain stays (be careful not to damage any cables). Then, put a 10mm hex wrench inside the pedal hole. Finally, attach a pedal wrench to the stuck pedal and push down. The hex wrench will keep the crank arms in place, allowing for an easier time removing the stuck pedal.
