Reno Bike Project (RBP) is a non-profit community bicycle shop and resource for the Truckee Meadows committed to creating a nationally recognized, cycling-friendly community through education, cooperation and advocacy.
I just found out that Nevada got rated the 29th most bicycle friendly state in the Union. Even better, we were ranked at 42nd in the nation way back in 2011. For a state that usually only excels in teen pregnancy and unemployment, a middle of the pack finish is a pretty nice thing. Not a bad job for Nevada, but it still shows that there is a ways to go as a cyclist friendly state. The study, done by the League of American Bicyclists, can be found here. Information specifically about Nevada is here.

This weekend saw the break in our inclement weather, and summer gushed out. There might have been something in the air. This something caused all the Freds in Reno to suit up and ride. I joined in the call and rode out to the Taco Bell in Verdi. I was told the most legitimate Mexican food in all of the greater Reno area can be found there.

I can't believe this is actually a thing.

Just like all of our abuelas used to make.

Full of cheap food and content with my ride, I stopped to reflect on the quality and ethos of what amounted to riding in circles. It wasn’t very long or strenuous, because I ride bikes like I write blogs: slowly with comfortable clothing, lots of breaks and for minimal recognition notice, and that’s okay. It wasn’t about getting someplace either, which actually bothers me. Why ride and not go anywhere?

Simple answer: because riding can be just for fun. So get out a ride.
