After Hours Workshops

Reno Bike Projects offers different workshops and classes to our members. Due to limited space and volunteers, membership is required.

Bicycle Repair Class

The Bicycle Repair Class is a four-week class meeting Wednesdays and Thursdays when class is in session. We aim to offer at least five sessions per year. Class runs from 6:30pm to 8:30/9pm at our production site (not open to the public) 635 E. 4th St. The class requires a refundable $250 deposit. Upon completion of 8 volunteer hours at RBP following the bike repair class, the deposit can be refunded.

Each class covers a different mechanical system on the bicycle and introduces new aspects of maintenance. Students work on bicycles provided by RBP, which, at the end of the course, will be set aside and subsidized to low-income individuals through our Biggest Little Commuter Program. The Bicycle Repair Class has been offered since 2014 and is a great all-encompassing introductory course to bicycle maintenance and repair.

Deposit Policy

We require a refundable $250 deposit to be paid in advance of the class start. Deposits will be returned in full upon completion of 8 volunteer hours at RBP following the class. Forfeited and donated deposits will be invested into finishing incomplete class bikes. This policy ensures that bikes are available for participants in the Biggest Little Commuter Program (BCLP). The BLCP provides vulnerable community members with bikes as an affordable means of transportation to get to work.

If you have already signed up for the BRC and need to pay your deposit, you can do so here.

FTWN-B Night

This workshop is open to those who identify as femmes, trans (the whole trans fam), women, non-binary, and genderfluid. We offer a safe, welcoming, affirming, and educational workspace at our bike shop at 216 E Grove St. This workshop has an informal structure and is driven by participants’ interests and the type of work their bicycles need. Open to Reno Bike Project Members. Non-members may attend their first FTWN-B Night before choosing to become a member. Participants should bring their own bicycles, or come to work on the group project. Reno Bike Project will provide tools. To be added to the FTWN-B mailing list for weekly workshop reminders, news, & updates, contact us.

Tune-Up Tuesdays

It's been a long time coming but we are beyond excited to announce that weekly after-hours workshops have returned to RBP every Tuesday night!

We have assembled an all-star cast of volunteers, friends of RBP and genuine good folks to host workshops at our 4th St. location. These workshops will be loosely structured with a theme each week (hubs, truing wheels, brakes, etc) but will be adapted based on the needs of those in attendance.

Bring your own bike to work on or help out on a group project! This workshop is focused on creating space for the bike community while taking some of the mystery out of bike repair and maintenance and sharing tips we've learned along the way.

The first Tuesday of every month will remain unchanged (and at Grove St.) as FTWN-B Night, exclusively for femme, trans, women and non-binary folks in our community. The second, third, fourth and fifth Tuesdays are for Tune Up Tuesdays at 635 E. 4th St.

All workshops are FREE to members of RBP.
