MAJOR TAYLOR RIDE CLUB
Named after African American world champion cyclist Marshall “Major” Taylor and inspired by similar clubs around the nation, RBP brought the Major Taylor Project to the Truckee Meadows. This program empowers youth by offering week-long education courses during the spring and summer that uses bikes as a tool to teach youth about physical fitness, nutrition, bike maintenance, setting and meeting goals, cycling safety, and the environmental benefits of bikes. Whether they use cycling for transportation or recreation, cycling offers young adults opportunities that might otherwise remain beyond their reach and can improve the quality of their lives. We instruct participants in bike maintenance, nutrition, safe cycling techniques, and more with bike rides in between lessons designed to help improve fitness and allow exploration in the community.
Since 2013, RBP and our Major Taylor Program have helped nearly 600 youth explore the Truckee Meadows by bicycle. We have partnered with other organizations in the Reno-Sparks area to provide this opportunity to enter the world of cycling to as many as possible! Participants borrow road and mountain bikes from RBP to eliminate the barrier of bike ownership. Empowered Youth Through Cycling
Cycling offers young adults opportunities that might otherwise remain beyond their reach, and can improve the quality of their lives. Whether they use cycling for transportation, recreation, or something in between, Reno Bike Project is happy to give young people a chance to enjoy cycling with Major Taylor.
