As the holiday season rolls around, the Reno Bike Project (RBP) gears up to give bikes to kids in need. The Freewheels for  Kids program is an annual event by RBP, in conjunction with the Reno Fire Department, the Children’s Cabinet of Northern Nevada, and (this year for the first time!) UNR’s Early Head Start Program. RBP repairs children’s bicycles, and our partners distribute them to the kids who need them most.

This year the community can get involved in two ways. First, folks, you can donate kids bikes to RBP during business hours (Wednesday through Saturday). Cash donations are also very much appreciated, as we need to replace parts on some bikes. You can specify the purpose your your monetary donation should to go toward when you donate to RBP through Paypal. Second, everyone is invited to come in during two scheduled work parties on December 6 and December 13 from 11a-3p @ RBP (541 E. 4th Street). During these work parties, volunteers of all skill levels will help repair bikes to make them safe and ready for the kids. RBP mechanics will assist in all repairs, and food and beverages will be provided as as small thank you. This is a great learning opportunity for folks with limited experience working on bikes.

To let us know you’re planning to attend, please fill out this short survey. Contact matthew@renobikeproject.com with any questions.

SWAP DON’T SHOP Thursday, July 19th, 2012

Our 6th annual bike swap is going to be our biggest yet.  This year we’ll be at the Barbara Bennett Park basketball courts during The Mighty Tour De Nez on July 29, 10-4.  We’ll have great deals on bikes, and our vendors will be selling more bikes, parts, and all kinds of cycling gear.  Do some shopping, and then grab a beer and watch the biggest little bike race in the world.

Have a bike to sell?  We’ll do it for you while you shop and watch the race.  Drop off your bike at our 4th St location the week before the event, or at the park between 8am and 10am.  The 20% consignment fee will benefit the Reno Bike Project’s education, advocacy, and outreach programs.

Interested in being a vendor at our event?  If you’re a shop, cycling club, or just have too much bike stuff in the garage, we’d love to have you at the swap.  This year it’s free!  Get in touch and we’ll sign you up.

If you have any questions please contact Casey Clark at renobikeproject@gmail.com

Clips of Faith Coming to Reno August 6! Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Hey all,

clips of faith poster

Our long time partner and sponsor New Belgium has started a new tour call Clips of Faith. They are making a stop here in Reno at Wingfield Park on August 6. The event begins at 6:30 pm with all the proceeds from beer sales going to Reno Bike Project. We hope to see you all there.

You can find all the details here http://www.clipsoffaith.com/cities.html

This first-year festival will bring people together for a summer outdoor screening of collected amateur short films accompanied by some of New Belgium’s most esoteric beer offerings. The Clips of Faith Beer & Film Tour
(www.clipsoffaith.com) will screen in fourteen cities throughout the summer and fall of
2010, beginning in Madison, Wisconsin on June 16.

Each stop along the fourteen-city tour will feature an outdoor screening of the collected
films, a full tasting of New Belgium’s Lips of Faith beers.

All proceeds will benefit local bike non-profits. The series will run between mid-June and mid-October.

Entries range from kayaking buddies navigating grizzlies and whales on a paddling trip
from Alaska to Seattle, to an absurdist spaghetti western about a flat tire (and some
beer). There are visual odes to people’s love affairs with their bikes, assorted comedy
shorts, and thought-provoking environmental pieces.

To learn more about New Belgium’s Clips of Faith series, go to www.clipsoffaith.com.
The creative team at New Belgium Brewing reviewed and selected the winning films.
Three top winners will receive an all expenses paid trip to New Belgium.

Give’n a Shout Out and Thanks Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Hey everyone!

RBP would like to give a huge THANK YOU! and a high-five to everyone involved in making “Veer” an awesome success. We really appreciate this great opportunity to have shared a great film with the Truckee Meadows cycling community. We want to especially thank our sponsors for their continually support: The Holland Project for being a partner in this film premier, Battle Born Beer (Silver Peak) for being on tap at the event, Chrome bags, for their awesome donations for the raffle, Jet Lites for some sweet gear at the raffle too, and absolutely cannot forget everyone at 12 Horses for the instrumental and monumental support in getting this off the ground and running. Thank you all at 12 Horses for everything! RBP would also like to give a huge thank you to Cal-Neva for the venue and spotting outside for the Bike Valet! Absolutely Awesome guys, thanks again.

And most importantly, thank you to all the supporters. Without you guys, none of this would be possible. We are here because you are here. We share a common ground for the love of cycling and are stoked to call this home. Thanks again everyone!

Much Love & Appreciation,

FLICKR PICS AND GOODS!!!

Trailer!!!

Reno Bike Project and Holland Project are stoked to announce an epic movie premier, right here in the biggest little city, “Veer”. A documentary film about bicycle culture and life, the premier is right up the alley of the local bicycle community.

TUESDAY, JUNE 23RD, DOORS AT 7PM, SCREENING AT 8PM                                                                                        Nevadan Hotel, 3rd Floor Club Cal Neva (West side of Virginia Street)

On the heels of National Bike Month, the Tour De Nez and the Reno Film Festival, Reno’s cycling culture gets a special pre-release screening of Veer. This award-winning, feature length documentary film explores America’s fast-growing bicycling culture by profiling five people whose lives are inextricably tied to bicycling and the bike-centric social groups they belong to. The film follows these characters over the course of a year, offering a behind-the-scenes look at their personal struggles and triumphs.

Described as a “breakthrough documentary,” the film made its world premiere at the Victoria Film Festival earlier this summer and has won a Jury Award for Best Doc at the Calgary Film Festival, won Best Documentary at the Calgary Underground Film Festival, and was nominated for Best Documentary at the San Joaquin International Film Festival. Veer examines what it means to be part of a community, and how social movements are formed.

Hope to see everyone there with their bike gear on, awesome attitudes, and the excitement for a great movie for a great bike community.

Thanks Everyone!!!
