After three years of dragging their feet, the City of San Francisco is recognizing the need of bicyclist. Courts will decide this week to begin stripping new bike lanes, installing bike racks and enacting other bike improvements by the fall. “I think this is going to be the biggest step the city’s ever taken on its commitment to sustainable transportation,” said Leah Shahum, executive director of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, an advocacy organization with considerable political clout at City Hall. “The bicycle plan has the potential to be a real turning point for the city in the way we use our streets.”
