Join RBP on our first 2017 community ride event! Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful is hosting their Great Community Cleanup and we’re riding to the Dorokstar Park site to do our part as cyclists and beautify this area along the Tahoe-Pyramid Bikeway! We leave RBP’s parking lot at 7:30a sharp.

Come dressed in layers—it may be chilly early in the morning but should warm as the morning passes (especially since we’ll be working)—but wear pants and consider long sleeves to protect your limbs. KTMB describes the work as: “Trash pick up, brush removal, graffiti removal, family friendly.” Hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen will be a must.

KTMB is hosting a volunteer appreciation picnic after the cleanup in Bartley Ranch, with barbecue, beer (21 and older, of course), and prizes. We’ll ride down to the park at 12—join us for the ride and party, or peel away and enjoy your afternoon. RSVP and see who else is going here!

The Reno Bike Project needs you! Friday, August 30th, 2013

Howdy Everyone,

You probably know that the Reno Bike Project has an awesome staff, but did you know that we actually count on our volunteers to keep the shop going?

That’s right folks, regular bike lovin’ people from our community are the real reason that we are able to provide so much for Reno, Sparks, and the surrounding areas.

If you have ever wanted to learn how to work on bikes for free, or had wanted to give your time to a worthy cause, then consider filling out a volunteer application online at or fill one out in person at our shop.

We have a lot of projects for volunteers right now. We really need people willing to come and give us their precious time. This is the best time of year to come in and learn something new, regardless if you have any previous experience.  Just fill out an application, attend a volunteer orientation, and drop on by.

Expedition Larry Thursday, November 10th, 2011

A great friend of the Reno Bike Project, Larry McKurtis, is on an epic bike tour from the wild wild west to the heart of South America. Thanks to semi-regular updates via Twitter (@CrazyUncleLarry) and Facebook we heard he has finished the Baja peninsula and plans to ferry to the mainland (Mexico) tomorrow to continue riding south on the mainland.

Before he left we chatted with him about bike tours. A few years back he rode his bike across America the Beautiful and says it was a life changing experience. “It changes you, the freedom and independance of riding your bike for so long really changes the way you look at things.” He encourages everyone to try it at least once, because chances are you’ll become hooked.

Here are some pictures taken from the man’s very active Twitter/Facebook feed. Thank goodness for iPhones and the internet in Mexico.

Larry ready to take on the road. Ride on brother!

"Tan lines. no filter" @CrazyUncleLarry ....we know that's all dirt not a tan dude take a shower.

"Where else do you run into mutual Tahoe locals? Middle of the Desert in Baja. Abe and Robin were packing surf boards on their bikes" @CrazyUncleLarry

"top left to bottom center. No Problem." @CrazyUncleLarry"

Hey Gals,

The one and only Lyndsey Langsdale is out of town this week, so we’re mourning her absence with a fun LADIES ONLY group ride. If you’ve never been to a Ladies’ Night this is a great opportunity for you to meet some of the foxy ladies who regularly attend our fun Tuesday night workshops. It’ll be a nice and social get together, we’ll probably ride for about an hour or less.

Kids are totally welcome! We will be riding on the safer, more quiet roads in downtown Reno.
