Reno Bike Project’s Freewheels for Kids outreach program provides free bikes to kids in need during the holiday season. Children’s bikes, donated by community members, are repaired and tuned up by RBP volunteers. Those bikes are then donated to community organizations who distribute the bikes to families in extreme need, many of whom will currently be living in shelters or in temporary housing.

Our 2016 bike drive is underway! If your family has outgrown or out-of-use bikes, donate them to Reno Bike Project and we’ll recycle them into a new home! Cash donations are also appreciated, as we will be replacing parts on some bikes to they’re not only ready to ride, but totally appealing to their new owners, too.

Our two Freewheels volunteer wrenching parties will be on December 3 and December 10 from 11am-3pm. Volunteers don’t need to have any prior mechanical experience to come in and help; our mechanic educators will oversee and assist in all repairs, and refreshments will be provided as a small thank you. This is a great learning opportunity for new volunteers.

The Reno Bike Project needs you! Friday, August 30th, 2013

Untitled

Howdy Everyone,

You probably know that the Reno Bike Project has an awesome staff, but did you know that we actually count on our volunteers to keep the shop going?

That’s right folks, regular bike lovin’ people from our community are the real reason that we are able to provide so much for Reno, Sparks, and the surrounding areas.

If you have ever wanted to learn how to work on bikes for free, or had wanted to give your time to a worthy cause, then consider filling out a volunteer application online at http://www.renobikeproject.com/get-involved/volunteer-application/ or fill one out in person at our shop.

We have a lot of projects for volunteers right now. We really need people willing to come and give us their precious time. This is the best time of year to come in and learn something new, regardless if you have any previous experience.  Just fill out an application, attend a volunteer orientation, and drop on by.

Thanks!
Kevin and the RBP Staff

NYC Bike Share Update: “If anything they gonna decorate this motha f*#@a.” Tuesday, June 11th, 2013

NYC recently launched the largest bike share program in the world and it only touches a small centralized area of NYC. As we all know at RPB, access to bikes can greatly improve the lives of everyone… especially low-income individuals. While the bike share does not yet reach those who really need it, I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will one day soon. This clip perfectly highlights the paradox of the citibike share program.

P.S. Congratulations! We finally did it. “The bike lobby is an all powerful enterprise.”
