CALL FOR COMMUNITY DJS – DEADLINE OCT 2 Thursday, September 21st, 2017

KWNK’s mission is to champion music and ideas through community-driven, non-commercial radio in Reno and beyond. Community Radio that is volunteer-based and listener-supported strengthens community ties and builds civic engagement. It’s a huge, long-anticipated, much-needed and exciting project and RBP is one of the partners & biggest cheerleaders. Check out the video below, the website HERE, or follow along on FB or Instagram!

* * * UPDATE: CALL FOR COMMUNITY DJS – DEADLINE OCT 2 * * *

It has been a long time coming and we are finally able to announce that Reno will be getting a community radio station this fall! As many of you know, Reno has been without a freeform community radio station (with both an FM and online presence) for a long time and we are so excited to see this finally change. The station is 97.7FM KWNK – and all our programming is by and for the people of our community. KWNK will feature programming from UNR’s student-run online station, Wolf Pack Radio, as well as programming from people in the community – like YOU!

Here’s where you come in. Want your own show?

As we gear up to get on the air in the coming weeks, we are reaching out to people we think represent our community and would be interested in being a part of KWNK’s first program. KWNK is a platform to amplify our voices and our culture through FM radio and give our community a station that isn’t corporate controlled and run on algorithms. We’re interested in your interests, in the music you like, and in the bands and artists that inspire and excite you.

There are FOUR OPTIONS for incoming DJs:

1. Weekly show: 30mins or 1hr, every week

2. Monthly show: 30mins or 1hr, once a month

3. One-Off: 30mins or 1hr, specialty show or playlist

4. Segment/Sweepers: Segments are 1-5mins on a short topic or announcement, Sweepers are even shorter – ie. “You are listening to KWNK 97.7FM, Reno”

We would love for you to be a part of KWNK as one of the important voices represented, and to help launch KWNK as a community staple. As we begin, KWNK will be on air from 4PM-4AM every day (starting Oct 2017), for roughly 6 months. By March 2018, the goal is that KWNK will take over, and transition into a full-time, 24 hr, fully fledged community radio station. As you can see, this 6 month part-time period is crucial for showing the potential of what KWNK can and will be, and we’d love for you to be a part of this journey.

If you’re interested in being a DJ or participating in KWNK, please fill out this ONLINE FORM and shoot it back to us by Monday, Oct 2. Once submitted, we’ll be blocking out the available hours for shows and programming, and will be doing some one-on-one training on how to build your show and send it in for broadcast.

Electric Bike Demo Day Tuesday, August 8th, 2017

Reno Bike Project is now proud to offer electric bicycles from the Toronto-based bicycle company, Opus, for demo and sale. We envision a future where more motorists leave their cars at home and ride bikes instead, and we think embracing e-bikes moves us in that direction.

We know e-bikes are as new to many in our community as the are to us, so we invite you to form your own impressions with a free e-bike demo on August 12, from 10a to 1p at UNR’s Fleischmann Planetarium. Come take a ride on the newest e-bike technology, and experience the future of bicycle travel. We will also be offering a Demo Day discount of 10% ($280) off e-bike sales that day. RSVP on Facebook!

The models we currently offer for demo and sale are the Opus WKND flat-bar road bike design and the CONNECT city bike design with a step-through frame, euro style.
